Family Resolutions 2009

We enjoyed a nice family dinner for the New Year last week. After clearing the plates away, Chance and I sat at the table with our children and discussed the concept of resolutions and goals for 2009. We discussed some things we would like to improve on physically and spiritually as a family. More determined healthy eating, more regular exercise, more family nights, etc. We made it a goal to try to be to church on time this year. (Uh...we're starting that goal next week as we woke up late for our new 9:00 am church time last week.) After our discussions, we asked each of the kids to identify some areas in their own lives that they would like to improve. Here are their goals for 2009:

Tyler feels he needs to work on improving his video gaming skills - specifically Wii. He also mentioned offhand that he should probably start listening better to his parents.

Noah says his goal is to try to eat his dinner this year.

Emma is going to ride her bike.

My own goals are harder to put onto paper. I have spent several quiet moments over the last month in the late or early morning hours thinking to myself. I have pondered and pondered the last 10 years of my life with Chance and where we have been (and where we could have gone) as a married couple and a family. I am enormously blessed and satisfied to have him as the companion of my life. I look back at all that we have experienced together and I want more. I want our lives to be fuller, richer, more meaningful. We have so much already ... but I want more. I can't find better words to express myself right now. I do not know what changes or improvements are needed yet. I just want more.

"Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man." ~Benjamin Franklin

That is SO interesting because I tried to sum up my goals into one word and the word I settled on was "more." I thought of the hymn "More Holiness Give Me" and I want to study those words and try to follow all of it. I think "more" is a great way to put it because in these crazy last days we all need "more" of the important stuff to keep us strong. Thanks for a great post. :)

I love the new year as we all try to become better people. I love that your son wanted to get better at the wii. :) That's an awesome quote from Benjamin Franklin. Thank you for posting it. You and Chance are such amazing people.

So hey, in response to your response on my blog. While we were there I was given a flyer to a model RR show and swap meet. It's the last weekend of January at Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. It was $10 for adult and children under ten are free. I'm sure there is a website to be found. Let me know if you need more info and I will dig up that flyer.
